Abstract

The main aim of the paper is to highlight mathematics anxiety, a major issue faced by Indian students. It aims to pinpoint the symptoms and causes of mathematics anxiety. The investigation also intends to direct the teachers and students towards the solutions to curb this anxiety, so that it helps in the improvement of their academic as well as overall performance. Basically, we want to work on upper primary school classrooms (10 to 14 years). Students were given a mathematics test and a following anxiety questionnaire to detect their levels of anxiety, to try to better understand issues that cause anxiety, and to understand ways that teachers might help reduce anxiety.

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the development and political background of the scheduled tribe women and their political empowerment through local self-government in the Dantan block 1.  Empowering women is essential for a healthy society and the development of families, communities, and countries. Their knowledge about the political participation and policy-making support received from the scheduled tribe women and political empowerment and their level of performance has also been explored. Political participation and policy making is a multidimensional concept which is influenced by different parameters. This study is based on primary evidence collected from Scheduled tribe women in Dantan block-1 and secondary evidence collected from the block office, various books, and journals, and also the internet. Despite some problems and difficulties, the rate of tribal women in empowerment and policy-making in several segments has increased.  Due to this benefit, it can be said that the women of the Scheduled Tribes have improved in every gram panchayat of Dantan block-1. This study may conclude that there is a strong relationship between the political empowerment and development of Schedule tribe women elected representatives and their capability in policy making. The main objective of this paper is to give an outline of political participation, policy-making, development, and empowerment of Scheduled tribal women of Dantan Block-1.

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার একটি বিখ্যাত ঐতিহাসিক স্থান হল দাঁতন। প্রাচীনকাল থেকে এখানকার মানুষদের প্রধান জীবিকা ছিল কৃষিকাজ। এই জীবিকাকে অবলম্বন করেই কিছু কিছু সম্প্রদায় এখানে স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করতে থাকেন। পরবর্ত্তিকালে দাঁতন যে সমৃদ্ধ জনপদ ছিল তার অনেক প্রমাণ রয়েছে। বড় বড় দীঘি, প্রচুর মন্দির, মন্দিরের পাশে পড়ে থাকা নানা প্রাচীন ভগ্নমূর্তি আজও অনায়াসে চোখে পড়ে তাছাড়াও বহু রাজা-জমিদার আদ্যিকালে এই স্থানে বিভিন্ন স্থাপত্যের কীর্তি নির্মাণ করেছিলেন। বর্তমানে ওই সমস্ত সৃষ্টির নিদর্শন ভগ্নাবশেষ হিসাবে এই অঞ্চলের কোথাও কোথাও পাওয়া যায়। দীর্ঘদিন মাটির তলায় চাপা পড়ে থাকা কিছু কিছু প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শনগুলি কোনো ব্যক্তি বিশেষের দ্বারা উদ্ধার প্রাপ্ত হয়ে দাঁতনের বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানে সংগৃহীত ও সংরক্ষিত আছে। কিন্তু এখনও সব প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শনগুলি সংগৃহীত ও সংরক্ষিত করার তেমন কোনো প্রচেষ্টা লক্ষ করা যায় না। এখনও অনেক প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শনগুলি অযত্নে ছড়ানো ছিটানো অবস্থায় পড়ে রয়েছে। সেই অবহেলিত বহু মূল্যবান ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত প্রাচীন দেবদেবীর বিভিন্ন অংশের প্রতীকী মূল্য বিশ্লেষণ, মূর্তিরস্বরূপ ও সময়কাল নির্ধারণই বর্তমান আলোচনার অভিপ্রায়।

Abstract

The present research paper aims to map out the ‘Cross-border’ Literature of South-Western Bengal, specifically the North Odisha region, primarily focusing on both existing creative literature as well as folk literature. As part of the College-Sponsored Minor Research Project initiated by Bhatter College, Dantan, this article is actually an upshot of the interviews and field trips conducted in various areas of this border region. Conducting research in this field also enables us to understand various critical nuances of literature and literary practices in this border area. Analysing the research findings, we arrive at a conclusion that although Creative Literature still thrives in various parts of this cross-border region, Oral and Folk Literature are facing severe crises and are critically endangered.

পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম সীমান্তে, ওড়িশার বালেশ্বর জেলার উত্তর-পূর্বে অবস্থিত দাঁতন-১ ব্লক। নৃতাত্ত্বিক ও ভৌগোলিক অবস্থানগত কারণে বাংলা ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতির মানচিত্রে স্বতন্ত্র আসন অধিকার করে রয়েছে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের এই প্রান্তিক ভূখণ্ডটি। ভাষার ক্ষেত্রে যেমন দেখি উত্তরা ওড়িয়া, দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম বাংলা বা South Western Bengali (বাংলা-ওড়িয়া উভয় ভাষার সঙ্গে সাদৃশ্য বিশিষ্ট পূর্বী রাঢ়ীর একটি বিভাষা) ও অস্ট্রো-এশিয়াটিক ভাষাসমূহ – তিনটি স্বতন্ত্র ভাষাবলয়ের সহাবস্থান, সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রেও তেমনই উৎকলীয়-বঙ্গীয়-উপজাতীয় — এই তিনটি ভিন্ন সংস্কৃতির রেণুগুলির পারস্পরিক আদান-প্রদানে গড়ে উঠেছে এক মিশ্র সাংস্কৃতি বলয়। শিবের বার্ষিক উৎসব গাজনে দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম সীমান্ত বাংলার লোকায়ত সংস্কৃতির এই চারিত্র্য ধর্মটি পরিলক্ষিত হয়। আর্য-প্রাগার্য, উৎকলীয়-বঙ্গীয় —বিভিন্ন সংস্কৃতির রেণুগুলির সমন্বয় ও সংমিশ্রণে গড়ে উঠেছে উৎসবের বিভিন্ন আচার-বিধি। গাজনোৎসবের জামডালি গানগুলিও এই ভাষিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক সংমিশ্রণের পরিচয়বাহী। তাই এই সাংস্কৃতিক মিশ্রণের প্রবাহকে সম্যকভাবে অনুধাবন করতে গেলে লোকউৎসব গাজন ও তার আনুষঙ্গিক গানগুলির  স্বরূপ ও উৎস অনুসন্ধান জরুরী হয়ে ওঠে।

Abstract

India’s struggle for becoming an independent nation involved combined efforts from both within and outside the country. Militant groups and bases abroad, particularly in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, and Germany, parallelly participated in the Indian liberation from the hostile British tyranny. Germany secretly supplied arms to the Bengal freedom fighters to raise ammunition against the English government. In Japan, an aggressive revolutionary activist, Rash Behari Bose, pioneered the Indian National Army (INA) with a strong determination to expel the British from India. In the subsequent years, the Indian Independence League (IIL) and the Rani Jhansi Regiment (RJR) were formed. The present article throws light upon the nucleation and expanding growth of these militant groups and illustrates their contribution to India’s struggle for independence. The paper reports the life of the Ranis during the war and glorifies the bravery with which they fought alongside men to liberate their motherland.

Abstract

‘Do you even know me?’ We often shout in the middle of an argument. Yes, this is a tricky question. But the trickiest question is “Do we even know ourselves?” It is not easy to define the Self by any single concept. Still, there are surely some facts that make me, Me. In my opinion, nothing is more familiar and unique to an individual than Consciousness, which constitutes the I.  The I Consciousness logically requires a self to be conscious of. Moreover, there would not be any notion of Self, if there was no consciousness to postulate it. Consciousness is a widespread phenomenon and almost every reductionist has his/her favourite argument to reduce it to something, that it is not. If we really want to grasp the true nature of the Self, we must take consciousness seriously. An organism has conscious experience means that there is something it is like to be that organism. One could look or behave like a bat without altering the fundamental structure, but his/her conscious experience would not be anything like a bat at all. On the other hand, if I could be transformed into a bat then though my conscious experience would be similar (may not be identical) to those bats, the conscious experience of Self would not remain the same. If the uniqueness of the Self is nothing more than the conscious experience of that individual, then it cannot be analyzed outside the realm of the physical form, that is the Body. Pain is felt in a certain way to me because of this molecular construction or bodily structure. There might be a Martian who sometimes feels pain just like us, but differs in its physical realization. It is undoubtedly an enigma of how self-consciousness could be objectively understood without a particular standpoint. If we really want to understand a particular individual, we need to comprehend his/her point of view exclusively, the way s/he perceives or feels the world. This exclusivity starts with the body in the given realm of an experientially given world. Frankly speaking, without the physical body of a bat, the concept of being a Bat would cease to exist.

Abstract

The foods we consume every day change a lot of hands before making it to our household. Our food goes through a long and variable journey. Starting from the farm it was harvested into the packaging and retail, there are many possibilities of our food not being in its purest form. We should always aim to eat as healthy as possible, but it becomes difficult to identify impurities in food items which usually come through adulterating of foodstuff. Impurities in food can be identified and or determined by a hollow prism and a LASER easily. Here we focused on only three samples like, normal tap water on our college campus, tea leaf, and Turmeric powder.

অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রেই লোকসংস্কার ও লোকবিশ্বাসের ব্যবহারিক প্রয়োগ দেখা যায় লোকঔষধ ও লোকচিকিৎসার মধ্যে। প্রাচীনকাল থেকেই রোগ সমাধানের জন্য মন্ত্র-তন্ত্র, তুক-তাক, বশীকরণ ইত্যাদির সূত্র ধরে লোকচিকিৎসা পদ্ধতি জন্মলাভ করলেও এর সঙ্গে ব্যবহার করা হয়ে থাকে বিবিধ গাছ-গাছড়া, শিকড়-বাকল ইত্যাদি। তবে এর মন্ত্র-তন্ত্রের গুণাগুণ কতটা সেটা সবই অলৌকিক বিশ্বাসের বিষয় হলেও গাছের গুণাগুণ অস্বীকার করা যায় না। আবার অনেক গাছের শিকড়-বাকল যে সবার শরীরের পক্ষে ভালো তেমনও নয়, এতে ক্ষতিরও আশঙ্কা থাকে। বর্তমান প্রবন্ধে লোকচিকিৎসার সঙ্গে লোকবিশ্বাস, বিজ্ঞান ও অপবিজ্ঞানের সম্পর্ক দেখানোর পাশাপাশি আজও কত মানুষ কেনো এই চিকিৎসা বিধির সাহায্য নিয়ে থাকেন তাও গাণিতিক পরিসংখ্যানের নিরিখে বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়েছে।
